«A Christmas Carol» is a novella by Charles Dickens about Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man, who is well-known for his miserly ways.

On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley.

The three spirits which follow, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come, show Scrooge how his mean behaviour has affected those around him.

At the end of the story he is relieved to discover that there is still time for him to change and we see him transformed into a generous and kind-hearted human being.

Dickens’s story of solitary miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is taught the true meaning of Christmas by a series of ghostly visitors, has proved one of his most well-loved works.

Ever since it was published in 1843 it has had an enduring influence on the way we think about the traditions of Christmas. Dickens’s other Christmas writings collected here include ‘The Story of the Goblins who Stole a Sexton’, the short story from The Pickwick Papers on which A Christmas Carol was based; along with shorter pieces drawn from the ‘Christmas Stories’ that Dickens wrote annually for his weekly journals.

Dédié à Léon Werth, ce conte philosophique est divisé en 27 chapitres qui racontent les aventures du petit prince.

À la suite d’une panne de moteur, un aviateur se retrouve dans le désert du Sahara.

Il rencontre le petit prince qui lui demande de lui dessiner un mouton. Étonné de le trouver là, l’aviateur voudrait savoir qui il est et d’où il vient.

Le petit prince ne répond pas aux questions mais au fil des chapitres et des jours, l’aviateur reconstitue l’histoire du petit garçon aux cheveux d’or.

Il habite l’astéroïde B 612, où il y a trois volcans, et où poussent des baobabs et une rose compliquée.

Un matin, il quitte sa planète et visite quelques astéroïdes où il rencontre un roi, un vaniteux, un ivrogne, un businessman, un allumeur de réverbères et un géographe.

Finalement, il arrive sur la Terre, en Afrique et parle avec un serpent.

Il parcourt la Terre et fait la connaissance du renard. Il lui apprend que pour avoir des amis il faut les apprivoiser.

Il apprend aussi que l’on devient responsable pour toujours de ce qu’on a apprivoisé.

Il observe les grandes personnes qui ont oublié le sens de l’existence.

This is one of the finest stories by the man who invented the historical novel and remains its greatest exponent.

One of the most controversial and problematic of all of Shakespeare`s plays, The Taming of the Shrew is a typical Elizabethan domestic comedy written around 1592.

Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, arrives in Padua and announces to his friends that `I come to wive it wealthily in Padua; If wealthily, then happily in Padua`.

He soon finds that a group of men keen to marry Bianca, the younger daughter of rich old Baptista, are frustrated by her elder, `shrewish` sister, Katherine.

There is much subsequent hilarity as Bianca`s suitors make a bet with Petruchio that he cannot `tame` and marry Katherine.

Despite Katherine`s protestations, Petruchio goes ahead with the match, using deliberately unorthodox behaviour to confuse Katherine (including a scene where he starves her), claiming that `this is the way to kill a wife with kindness`.

The play culminates with a scene of Katherine`s apparently spontaneous subjection to her husband`s will, where she places her hand beneath her husband`s foot, and tells the other wives present that `thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper`.

The play`s gratuitous scenes of women being abused and vilified in the name of `comedy` has made many directors and critics very uncomfortable with the play, and many feminist critics have condemned contemporary productions of the play as reproducing certain 16th-century stereotypes concerning women who speak out against male authority.
